FTP is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol – a rather popular method of exchanging files between a computer and a web server. Using an FTP program such as CuteFTP or FileZilla, you can make a connection to the server and view its content in one pane, whereas the files on your computer will be displayed in another pane within the main program window. All you will have to do to send files or whole folders in either direction is to select them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. File Transfer Protocol is preferred by a lot of users because you can create different FTP accounts and each of them can be limited to access just one folder on the server, so a designer, for instance, can carry out their job without being able to access any other content in your website hosting account. Furthermore, the presence of different FTP accounts will also allow you to create multiple sites with web design apps like FrontPage or Dreamweaver and to upload them to their specific folders on the server.
FTP Accounts in Shared Hosting
You can set up as many FTP accounts as you like with each of the Linux shared hosting service
that we are offering, since we’ve decided not to limit this service. In this way, you can run numerous Internet sites at once or grant other individuals access to different directories. Once a particular job has been done and you wouldn’t like that individual to be able to connect to your web files any longer, you can change the password for the FTP account or you can just remove the account with a couple of clicks and stop worrying about somebody connecting to it again. The Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with all hosting accounts, will allow you to check the full list of the existing FTP accounts shown alphabetically. It takes just a click to administer different options for any of them – to update the access path or the password, to download an auto-config file, etc.
FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our Linux semi-dedicated hosting service
are rather powerful, which makes them ideal for hosting an enormous number of Internet sites. Speaking of which, we’ve chosen not to set a restriction on the number of FTP accounts that you can set up, so you can have a different FTP account for each site that you host on our platform. All FTP accounts will be shown in alphabetical order in the respective section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which is included with each semi-dedicated server account. For each of them, you’ll be able to see the access path and to modify it, if necessary. Also, you can set up an account in your preferred FTP client by downloading an auto-config file and running it on your home computer, which will save you time. If you’ve never used a hosting account before, you can check our detailed instructional videos, which are available in the same Control Panel section.
FTP Accounts in VPS Servers
None of the Linux VPS web hosting service
that we are offering includes any restriction on the total number of FTP accounts that you can have at any moment, so you can create a separate FTP account for any site hosted on the Virtual Private Server, no matter if it is under a domain or subdomain. It also doesn’t matter which hosting Control Panel you’ll select when you join – Hepsia, cPanel or DirectAdmin, since an FTP server will be set up on the VPS during the installation of any of them. If you want several individuals to set up a connection to one and the same directory using their own set of login credentials, for example, it will take several clicks of the mouse to create a separate FTP account for each of them. Removing an active account or changing the directory that it can connect to is just as easy and you will not run into any problem, even if you don’t have past experience in such matters.
