SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to exchange encoded information between a client and a web server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy clients opt for SSH due to the better security level. The connection is established and the commands are sent via a command line. The offered options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files may be moved or deleted, databases could be imported and exported, and archives may be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your options are much more - the web server and the database server may be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software could be set up and a lot more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server would be affected. Although SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, etc.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
If the shared hosting
plan that you’ve picked during the signup procedure provides SSH access as standard, you'll be able to activate this function with only a mouse click within your Hepsia CP. If you have selected a different package, the SSH access function may be added via the Upgrades menu and it'll become available immediately. The information you need to connect shall be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same place and you will be able to change it at any time. All commands which are allowed are listed within the Help articles that we have prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you need to use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you shall be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our semi-dedicated server
accounts provide the possibility to access and control them via SSH. If the package deal that you have chosen includes this function by default, you just have to enable the SSH access feature via the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you can quickly add it through the Add Services/Upgrades link within the Hepsia CP and it'll be available within a minute. We have a lot of help articles and video lessons about the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands you can carry out along with several examples to provide you with a better idea of what you could do. If SSH is active, you will also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data safely and securely via any FTP app that supports the function.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
When you acquire a new VPS server
from our company, it shall offer full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to manage everything via an SSH console. The feature comes by default with all plans, so you won't need to activate or upgrade anything. Your server shall be set up immediately after you order it and the minute you get the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect using the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there will be no restrictions regarding the commands that you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you could set up and run any app which can work on a Linux hosting server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
